Professional Bio

Sarah is a Senator for Victoria in the Australian Senate, representing the Liberal Party, and Shadow Minister for Communications.  
 
After careers in broadcast journalism and commercial law, Sarah was first elected to the Australian Parliament in 2013 where she served as the member for Corangamite for two terms until 2019. 
 
In September 2019, Sarah re-entered the Parliament as an Australian Senator and was re-elected at the May 2022 general election. She has served in a wide variety of roles including Chair of the House of Representatives Economics Committee in 2018, Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services in 2018-2019, and Chair of the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee in 2021-2022. 
 
Sarah was born and raised in Geelong, Victoria. For the first part of her professional life, she worked for the Seven, Nine and Ten networks as a news reporter and presenter before moving to ABC-TV where she hosted the Victorian edition of the 7.30 Report, winning a prestigious Walkley Award in 1996. 
 
In 1998, after obtaining a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Monash University, Sarah joined Arthur Robinson & Hedderwicks (now Allens) in Melbourne as a commercial lawyer. She went on to work for News Corporation in New York as an attorney before establishing her own media consultancy. This led to executive roles with Network Ten and National Indigenous TV in Sydney.
 
Sarah lives in Barwon Heads, a coastal town near Geelong, with her 16 year old son Jeremy.
